In the spirit of summer vacation I offer you two picture books on the subject: Pictures from Our Vacation by Lynne Rae Perkins and A Couple of Boys Have the Best Week Ever by Marla Frazee.
I have wonderful memories of family vacations - my parents would pile us all in the car and head down to Bayhead on the Jersey shore. A U-Haul filled with trunks (two weeks of clothes and beach towels for nine people takes up a lot of room), bikes and other assorted sports equipment, trailed behind. Perkins and Frazee capture the joy of summer vacation beautifully. My favorite sentiment is from Pictures when the narrator realizes that some of the best memories reside in our hearts, not in our photo albums.
